Visiting Artist Programs:
HemispHEREs
Through an open, artist-led curatorial process, HemispHEREs pairs innovative international hybrid visiting artists with HERE's local resident artists. Prior to a NYC residency, long-distance interaction takes place between the artists via connectivity technology. Then, each Visiting Artist shows a work at HERE for 3-5 performances that dovetails conceptually, aesthetically, or thematically with the simultaneously playing work of the "host" HARP Artist. In addition, each Visiting Artist is provided with space and resources to work on the development of a new project at whatever point in its process it is. Reciprocal open rehearsals and workshops sharing practice are conducted. Visiting Artists also participate in a HARP artist meeting, deepening their engagement with our whole artist community.
StartHERE: Innovative Theatre for Young People
In 2008, HERE Arts Center began a new programming initiative for young audiences with StartHERE, curated by Jeffrey Mousseau. Through this initiative, HERE intends to make young people's programming a highlight of its annual season. With work showcasing the integration of puppetry, object theatre, multi-media and live music in dramatic storytelling, StartHERE provides a regularly scheduled opportunity for younger audiences to have access to the latest trends in the performing arts. StartHERE builds upon occasional productions (such as Alice in Wonderland and The Adventures of Charcoal Boy in 2005-2006, Poli Dégaine and Frankenstein in 2007-2008) that have been produced at HERE that family audiences enjoyed.
