HANAFUDA DENKI – The Dance of Death – Shuji Terayama

Supported by the Agency for Cultural Affairs Government of Japan in the fiscal 2013.

About the show

Danjuro's family business deals in death. What will he do when his only daughter's heart is stolen by a living man?

This polished and passionate Japanese musical by avant-garde master Shuji Terayama (1935-1983) confronts death with glee and irreverence. Performed by a highly disciplined cast that pushes their limits, creating a show that is both crazily precise and soothingly chaotic. Performed by Tokyo's world famous underground theatre troupe Ryuzanji Company, it was loved by audiences on its 2012 Fringe Tour to Edinburgh, New York, Victoria, and Vancouver, and it's now back
in New York for a limited run.
